Jesse Pollak Confirms 'Imminent' Debut of 1:1-Backed Tokenized Equities on Base Network
The Base network is on the verge of introducing 1:1-backed tokenized equities, a development its creator Jesse Pollak calls "imminent." This upcoming launch signals a strategic pivot for the Coinbase-backed L2, moving away from social products to focus on finance.

According to Jesse Pollak, the creator of Coinbase’s Ethereum layer-2 network, Base is on the verge of launching 1:1-backed tokenized equities. The move is part of a broader effort by the Coinbase-backed platform to expand its financial offerings and shift away from its original social-first strategy.
The confirmation came after Pollak commented in a Tuesday post on X that Robinhood Chain, another recently launched Ethereum layer-2, had correctly implemented tokenized equities within an EVM environment. He acknowledged that Base was "behind on that front."
Following this post, Garrett Skrovina, the head of fintech at Lazer Technologies, inquired about the projected timeline for bringing 1:1-backed equities to the Base platform. Pollak’s reply was direct: “Imminent — dotting i’s and crossing t’s, but should be very soon.”
This development marks an acceleration of Base's strategic pivot toward financial applications and away from its previous emphasis on social products.
Pollak stated recently that Base had made a “wrong bet” with its initial prioritization of apps centered around creators, content, and messaging. In line with its revised strategy, the network is now directing its focus toward trading, payments, AI agents, and tokenized assets.
