Bitcoin ETFs Return to Positive Inflows in July Despite Late-Month Volatility and Investor Caution
Spot Bitcoin ETFs reversed a two-month outflow trend by attracting $172.4 million in net inflows during July. However, the funds remain down $5.3 billion year-to-date, and a significant sell-off at the end of the month suggests investor apprehension heading into August.

In a reversal of a recent trend, US-listed spot Bitcoin exchange-traded funds (ETFs) concluded July with positive inflows, even as the market experienced a wave of selling and BTC price volatility toward the end of the month.
July's Performance in Detail
According to data from SoSoValue, Bitcoin ETFs brought in a modest $172.4 million in net inflows throughout July, marking a turnaround after two straight months of withdrawals.
This monthly gain occurred despite a turbulent finish to July. On the final Friday, the funds experienced a substantial net outflow of $265.4 million, which was the largest single-day withdrawal recorded since July 13.
The return to positive territory in July provided a much-needed boost for Bitcoin ETF flows, which had suffered combined outflows of nearly $7 billion over the preceding two months. The largest monthly outflow for 2026 occurred in June, totaling $4.5 billion. Nevertheless, the weak conclusion to the month indicated that investors were maintaining a cautious stance as August began.
Weekly flow data also reflected this late-month shift. After enjoying three consecutive weeks of positive inflows, Bitcoin ETFs registered a $61.53 million outflow for the week that concluded on July 31.
Year-to-Date and Cumulative Figures
Despite the slight recovery in July, the year-to-date performance for US-listed spot Bitcoin ETFs remains negative, with net outflows for the year totaling approximately $5.3 billion.
Throughout 2026, only three months have been positive for these funds: March, April, and July, which collectively attracted $3.46 billion in inflows. In contrast, January, February, May, and June saw combined outflows of about $8.75 billion.
Since their inception, however, the products have successfully drawn $51.32 billion in cumulative net inflows. As of the end of July, their total net assets stood at $76.29 billion.
Altcoin ETFs Show Steadier Demand
While Bitcoin ETFs contended with renewed selling pressure at the month's end, some ETFs focused on altcoins demonstrated more consistent inflows.
Ether ETFs were a standout performer, achieving four consecutive weeks of positive inflows. SoSoValue data shows they concluded the month with a net inflow of $365.2 million. This represented the second positive month for Ether ETFs in 2026, following a $356 million inflow in April. Despite this recovery, the products are still facing a net outflow of about $1.1 billion year-to-date.
XRP ETFs also showed persistent demand, recording $27.3 million in inflows for July. This marked the fifth positive month for the products in 2026. With approximately $343 million in net inflows year-to-date, XRP ETFs have become one of the stronger-performing crypto ETF categories this year.
