Cloudflare Unveils Programmable Wallets for AI Agents, with Stablecoin Payments on the Horizon

On Tuesday, Cloudflare announced the launch of Cloudflare Wallets, a new programmable wallet solution created specifically for artificial intelligence (AI) agents. The system is engineered to eventually support payments made with stablecoins.

In a blog post, the U.S.-based cloud infrastructure firm explained that the product's purpose is to streamline how AI agents identify themselves and conduct payments. This capability will allow them to purchase access to application programming interfaces (APIs) and digital content using stablecoin micropayments, a concept the company has termed “agentic commerce.”

According to Cloudflare, while the payment functionalities will be released in a future update, users are able to claim a handle for their Cloudflare Wallet right away.

The company has outlined plans to connect these new wallets with its recently announced Monetization Gateway. This gateway leverages Coinbase’s x402 protocol to facilitate stablecoin-based micropayments.

Will Papper, a software engineer at Cloudflare, elaborated on the benefits in the blog post. “Stablecoin micropayments via x402 will make it simple to try an API without an account, allowing agents to test new options with little friction,” Papper wrote. He further explained that the wallets would provide users with the ability to hold stablecoins and also to accept payments from various sources on the internet.

When Cointelegraph reached out to Cloudflare to inquire about the specific timeline for the rollout and to request more information, a response had not been provided by the time of publication.
